Nothing like an exhilarating day spent outdoors rafting, hiking, swimming, fishing, right?
But once you’re done blasting down the river or zip lining through the treetops, chances are that you might have worked up a bit of an appetite. One of our favorite things about a weekend spent outdoors is the yummy foods that you can make fireside to help fuel your outdoor adventure!
We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite fireside foods to get you full and happy on your next outdoor getaway.
Fireside breakfast? Yes please! When it’s time to get up and take on the day, a full breakfast can be an essential part of your outdoor adventure.
How about a Tofu or Egg Veggie Scramble?? Take your favorite base and bring along your favorite ingredients to mix in with your eggs and tofu. Make sure to roast your veggies first and only add the eggs/tofu at the last 10 minutes. Some of our favorite choices? for “mixins”? Tomatoes, arugula, potatoes, butternut squash, peppers, onions……
Looking for something a little sweeter to start your morning off? How about a campfire roasted cinnamon roll (our mouthes are watering just thinking about it!)? If the thought alone of that delicious smell isn’t enough to get you motivated, check out this great and easy recipe here.
When you think campfire lunch, you think hotdogs, right? Which while roasted weenies are always a great choice, there are so many more fun and unique lunches out there. If you’re absolutely sold on the dogs, don’t forget that you can get them made from something to suit just about any taste – including vegetarians and those would prefer poultry.
If you’ve got a little more time, and an affinity for tasty smells floating around the campfire, how about some Campfire Chili in a Dutch Oven? Even though it sounds complicated and labour intensive, we promise it’s not! Bring some chips or crusty bread, and you can be sure that your (super easy!) chili will be scarfed down before you even have a chance to finish cleaning up! And of course we can’t forget a true wilderness favorite; granola! The perfect snack for hiking or long days away from camp, granola is easy, tasty, keeps well, and can include pretty much anything you want it to. Our favorites usually include a variety of grains, some dried fruits, and a bit of dark chocolate (yum).
If you’re short on time and are in search of something with a hefty serving of protein, don’t forget about beef jerky! Easily accessible and light, you can find your favorite jerky at just about any store and from your favorite type of meat (we love turkey jerky – though purists might disagree).
OK, we know you’ll be starving by this point in the day, so while just about anything might sound good, somethings are really just the best. One of our new favorites, usually considered by many to be a snack food, can be converted into one of the greatest dinners you’ll ever have – Green Chili Cheese Fries. Because really, who doesn’t love cheese AND fries? The best part is that with the help of this recipe, you’ll definitely be rethinking the “fries as a snack” theory.
If you’re looking for something a little different from the traditional campfire fare, how about Campfire Chicken with Roasted Brussel Sprouts, Potatoes, and Dill? Yes, it may sound like something that you get when you go out for dinner, but that’s a huge part of the appeal. The best part? It’s super easy to put together following this recipe and is sure to become a new favorite in your family (and you might even find yourself making it again at home!).
Ahh dessert, easily the most important meal of the day ;). No, but really, what would be any good camping trip without something sweet to top it all off? Of course, we expect that marshmallows (and your trusty sticks) will be an integral part of the experience, but why not take your s’mores to the next level with the addition of Nutella and Banana?
