As many of our rafting friends and guests remember, we have had a longstanding deal known as “Terrific Tuesdays”. This deal has been a great way to get the full rafting experience – but at a great value! The deal consisted of buying one New River Single Day ticket, and getting the second trip at half price. That sounds like a pretty good Tuesday to me!
HOWEVER – we are expanding this deal! Want to know how? Keep reading for all the details.
The New River Gorge is full of thrill inducing activities such as white water rafting, ATV tours, mountain climbing, and zip lines. These attractions are what draw many people to the area; but most learn upon their arrival that there is much, much more to the region than water sports and almost limitless spans of nature. Southern West Virginia is also home to rich cultural and arts scene that helps to balance the high energy atmosphere that comes with adventure vacations. So, when you are taking a quick break to rest your rafting muscles, be sure to check out local arts and entertainment.
Memorial Day has been a national holiday since the enactment of the National Holiday Act in 1971. While the actual day had fluctuated up until this point, it was then decided that Memorial Day would occur on the last Monday in May every year. This holiday serves as respect for those who passed defending America’s freedom (and oftentimes, the freedom of many other countries) in wars throughout history.
While it is extremely important that we all take some time on Memorial Day to remember all of our brave veterans (present and past), it is also important for us to celebrate the lives they lived and the freedoms that they thought so hard to protect for us. So, this Memorial Day, take time to pay your respects for those who lived for America, but also take some time to enjoy the outdoors and the country that they protected.
In addition to whitewater rafting and all the other water sports in the area, there are tons of other great ways to explore everything that the New River Gorge has to offer. One of the most popular ways to do so is by hiking. There are numerous trails in surrounding state parks that incorporate all the beauty of the gorge.
The New River is not particularly “New” in the same sense of the word that you might think. In fact, the New River is one of oldest rivers in the world- some believe it is only shadowed by the Nile. It almost seems that whoever picked this name did not notice the other many characteristics of the river! Want to learn a little bit more about the story behind the name of one of our favorite rivers? Keep reading!
